Youth & Services for the Children – August 2017

Posted on Aug 27, 2017 in Youth & Services for Children

I have recently been contacted by Ben Gibbons from the YMCA Chelmsford. They are interested in setting up youth clubs in Essex with the help of local councils to try and combat anti-social behaviour. They would like to set one up in Brightlingsea, and my understanding from our conversation is that they will supply the staff with all the necessary qualifications and checks. We would have to supply the hall and £2,900 for one year’s set up. I made contact with 4 Youth in Brightlingsea as it would be unfair to set up in competition with them,...

April 2016 – Youth

Councillor Steady represented the council at an awards evening in Chelmsford with members of the 4 Youth committee on 12 April. Skate Park pump track has been subject to discussion with users and top soil has been moved to improve the layout. Further work needs to be done in conjunction with the Colne School and other users. The closure and reduced funding for children’s centres across Essex will have an impact upon provision in Brightlingsea. Efforts will be made to minimise any impact upon children’s services in the...

Contact has been made with the Essex Fire and Rescue service about setting up a Fire Cadets group in Brightlingsea. This is aimed at engaging with 13-17 year olds through activity based meetings, supporting community projects and training for Duke of Eduinburgh award. I have agreed to meet further with representatives to look at funding and other support options. The recent Winterfest weekend in the town was a great success raising the profile of mental health issues and the work of MIND. I was contacted by organisers and the council will be...

Two practice goals have been erected on the rec for general use by the youth of the town. They have been well received and used appropriately. Correspondence with local resident and professional BMX rider Zach Shaw has been on-going with regard to pump track development on the Western promenade. Liaison with Councillor Vivien Chapman and Grounds Manager Terry Hamilton will hopefully progress this project in the Spring when weather conditions allow.
