Swimming Pool (Councillor Barry) The swimming pool is on track to open on the 28th May although there have been some issues with plant and equipment. Regular work parties and over sixty regular volunteers have undertaken a complete make over of the facility which now looks the best it has for many years.   We now have ten trained lifeguards and six people recently completed the pool plant operators course.   Negotiations are still ongoing over the financial contribution that was pledged by TDC.   A number of donations have been received from...

Swimming Pool (Councillor Barry) The new Brightlingsea Lido is now under a 50 yr leasehold agreement between TDC and BTC as from the 6th April 2018. This is the first time since 1974 that an asset previously held by Tendring has been returned to the Town Council. Western Promenade & Swimming Pool – August 2017

Posted on Aug 27, 2017 in Western Promenade & Swimming Pool

Swimming Pool Recommendations were made to finance committee on 10th August regarding progression of asset transfer and development of community trust status. These recommendations were accepted and will be taken forward. The weather has been disappointing and the use of the pool in the first month has reflected this with low attendances. It is hoped the second month will improve on all fronts. Western Promenade Councillor Howard and I did a check-list on Monday evening at 6 p.m. when the Prom. was still very busy, and report as follows:- If...

Swimming Pool Following the successful public meeting in April a follow up meeting of volunteers was held on May 25th. This was well attended and led to the formation of some small working parties to look at the establishment of a campaigning group with a recognisable identity, and the feasibility and viability of other similar pools. There will need to be some detailed surveys and assessments done in the next few months to establish the future direction of the resource. There is an encouraging level of commitment in the volunteer group who...

Posted on Jul 27, 2017 in Western Promenade & Swimming Pool

Swimming Pool There have been two meetings of the swimming pool steering group since the last council meeting. At the meeting on 22nd June, the form and composition of the groups was discussed and the name Brightlingsea Lido Action Group was agreed as a working name for the group. This gives the group an identity and easily remembered acronym in BLAG, which has been printed on t-shirts and promotional material. The action group continues to thrive and have positive meetings with enthusiastic volunteers. Members of BLAG were out in force on...
