Regeneration (Councillor J Chapman) I was invited to the opening of the three new shops last Saturday. I took a good luck card from the council to all of them. A meeting took place last week with the local businesses and it was proposed to move the Christmas Late Night Shopping event back to the Friday night along with the craft Fair at the YMCA and the Hospice Light up a Life service. It is hoped that working with the council we can get it back to old way where all local groups and charities can have stalls and boost their funds and showcase...

Security initiative – I have had very limited interest from businesses which has been positive but more information is required,  however I will be putting the idea forward at the extraordinary meeting in march of the business association. As far as the general population is concerned. Again limited interest all pretty negative. I will carry out a more scientific study over the next month which will, hopefully, give a better idea of people’s thoughts. Cameras – Awaiting confirmation that money is available in the budget for...

Regeneration – August 2015

Spoken to B’sea in bloom about flower/ shrub beds along center of grass areas in Victoria place. They informed me that that was always the council’s responsibility and that they were too busy to do it. Can we discuss the idea. It seems that there is only one camera in Victoria place which can be rotated but when not monitored, will only record what its looking at. I am informed that there can be at least two more fitted to the same mast. I propose that this be done in order to monitor Victoria place in both directions with the existing one...

Brightlingsea Regatta and Boat Show on July 4/5 is a good opportunity for local firms/business’s to promote themselves with a stall. Although a deposit needed to reserve this will be returned for locals. With the right weather a crowd of several thousand is expected over the 2 days. Supported financially by Brightlingsea Town Council. The latest web site figures shown increased activity

Brightlingsea Regatta and Boat Show on July 4/5 is a good opportunity for local firms/businesses to promote themselves with a stall. Although a deposit needed to reserve this will be returned for locals. With the right weather a crowd of several thousand is expected over the 2 days. Supported financially by Brightlingsea Town Council. Not exactly sure this is the correct area but there appears to be an on-going problem with the railway gates at the Thorrington train crossing. It is reported that it is not unusual for the gates to be closed...

I attended the opening of the Ctruk new premises at Colchester on December 11. Although Ctruk are expanding to the bigger premises they confirmed their commitment to the Brightlingsea operation. Apparently although the building capacity at Colchester is better – but the skill levels, launch and harbour facilities at Brightlingsea are still superior. Alan Goggin

The website update. Still proves to be popular and I would urge Council to use the site more. I would recommend that all Councillors to “sign up” for the news feed links to see what is being sent out in our name. Any Councillor with ideas or suggestions please feel free to mention to me, Tracey or David Bridle. Probably the wrong place to mention it but I thought that the real spirit of the Town was captured at the War Memorial showing on Sunday Nov 9 What a privilege to live in this Town! The follow up on Nov 11 was just as credible if not...

Nothing extra to report apart from slightly confusing meeting with Lloyds bank – organised by Jane.  May be discussed by Council. No development re Barclays bank that I have heard. The website update.  Some interesting comments from the web-master – David Bridle – about social media sites.  Would be interested in Councillors opinions/views.  Discuss Thursday?  Any Councillor with ideas or suggestions please feel free to mention to me, Tracey or David Bridle.  David Bridle reports increased...

The website is being updated and modernised.  Any Councillor with ideas or suggestions please feel free to mention to me, Tracey or David Bridle.  New website with “soft” launch March 20.  Full “hard” launch to be at next Council meeting April 17.  Would like Councils permission to allow David Bridle – our webmaster – to make a 10 minute presentation to Councillors at next full Council meeting. Great feedback from local businesses who attend marketing seminar at TDC. Cost at £10 but subsidised by approx. £80.  Good local attendance. See...
