Western Promenade & Swimming Pool – June 2017

Posted on Aug 14, 2017 in Western Promenade & Swimming Pool

Swimming Pool Following the successful public meeting in April a follow up meeting of volunteers was held on May 25th. This was well attended and led to the formation of some small working parties to look at the establishment of a campaigning group with a recognisable identity, and the feasibility and viability of other similar pools. There will need to be some detailed surveys and assessments done in the next few months to establish the future direction of the resource. There is an encouraging level of commitment in the volunteer group who...

A public meeting regarding the future of the swimming pool was held in the Community Centre on 26th April. The meeting was attended by over 80 people and they were given an update on the current situation and a presentation by Dennis Freeman-Wright from the ASA. He gave information regarding the formation of a possible community trust to manage the pool and 30 people signed up to be involved in future discussions on this issue. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for 25th May. We are at a stage where surveys and detailed feasibility...

Western Promenade – April 2017

The camper van parked on Promenade Way, registration X991 JTR has been there for several weeks. Terry says it is taxed and no action can be taken. However, if anyone knows who it belongs to, perhaps they could let me know and we will try to get it moved. Julie is going to see if she can find out as well. The sale of Lakeside Caravan Park has fallen through. Two other people have shown an interest and will presumably go directly to Chris Poll. The Model Boat Club held a Twilight Sale last Monday, 10th and the Scouts have had their boats out...

Met with Tendring District Council last week to discuss the maintenance required to open the pool for the coming season. We agreed a schedule of works, most of which are cosmetic. There is a public meeting called for Wednesday 26th April – hopefully will get a good response in our efforts to get the town to engage in running the pool for future years.

Western Promenade I had a meeting with Mike Carran last week, and was accompanied by Jean and Terry. We met at Bateman’s and discussed various aspects of the Promenade, which were a re-iteration of previous discussions and queries, requests and complaints. Mike is going to draw up a plan for a three-year strategy to improve the Western Promenade and a draft of this, will be sent to me by the beginning of October. Next week he is going to visit all the seafront areas in the District with Steve Gove with this purpose in mind, and will endeavour...

Western Promenade – August 2016

Western Promenade – Councillor V Chapman Unfortunately, the pre-season and start of the season, has brought it’s problems and complaints. They have mainly been in connection with the toilets and the seaweed. The weather has been very good on the whole, and thus the Prom., has been very busy. This inevitably means that the toilets are well-used! As from Saturday, 6th August, the toilets are getting three cleans a day (this applies to the other two toilet blocks in the town as well). This will probably revert to two cleans a day when the season...

Western Promenade We are still awaiting Playquip to install a new Mobility Whirl and Zip Wire. This has taken longer than we envisaged, but this will be done prior to the school summer holidays. The mounds of earth again have proved more onerous to distribute, due to the number of stones. Terry has tried to get assistance with clearing the stones, but this hasn’t happened and the men are having to pick them out. Once the work is completed, the whole area will be much improved. Had a meeting with Ian Taylor on the Promenade last week, with...

April 2016 – Western Promenade

The remainder of the posts have been installed and the area is looking tidier. More posts will be positioned in due course. Due to inclement weather and the ground being further churned up by foolhardy drivers the gates to the car park are being closed around 4pm, or not opened at all if the weather is extremely bad. The soil, which has been placed on the safe play (and improve the parking area), is to even the ground and prepare it for seasonal use by the Rugby Club. This work has been somewhat hampered by the very heavy rain fall, but is...
