Reports from Council Representatives on Outside Bodies – June 2017

Councillor Vivien Chapman

REPORT ON TDALC MEETING, HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 24th MAY, 2017 AT BEAUMONT-CUM-MOZE VILLAGE HALL

This was the AGM, when Robert Taylor was re-elected as Chairman and Janet Russell was re-elected as Secretary, and I was elected as Vice-Chairman.

After the short AGM. It was an open forum, and the same questions that always get asked, which affect all the Councils, were asked and discussed again. These were:-

  • Planning, over development, infrastructure, un-wanted decisions being made after views of parishes and towns had been put forward and would seem to be ignored.
  • Fly-tipping and rubbish on the carriageways, etc.
  • Pot holes and other road-related matters.
  • Crime and lack of police.

Several of these matters are being put forward by TDALC to the relevant people and we are hoping to welcome speakers on some of these subjects in due course.

REPORT ON EALC MEETING, HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 14TH JUNE, 2017

As some kind soul, smashed my passenger car window, (one among several I gather), Michael kindly drove us to the EALC meeting (which he hadn’t intended to attend).

The venue was Marks Tey Village Hall, which was very good for parking and facilities, but dreadful for acoustics! We were welcomed by Cllr. Allan Walker.

We then heard a presentation, with power point images, from Emma Hibbert, the Marketing Director of Adnams Brewery, which was most interesting, and included a bottle of Ghostship beer for everyone!

We received a NALC update from Cllr. Peter Davey, a SLCC update from Enid Walsh (this body is for Clerks, so Tracey will have received the information). They hold various meetings, functions and the occasional outing. The next is a visit to the steam museum at Langton near Maldon. Joy Darby gave an EALC update.

The new High Sheriff of Essex, Simon Hall, MBE, gave a very interesting talk about the history of the role and what he has done so far and what he hopes to achieve during the year. He is working with the police, prisons, Open Road and other agencies with regard to crime and drugs.

The last speaker was Stephen Andrews, the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit Manager. Another very interesting talk with power point presentation. Rather too much to take notes on, but I have asked him to send me the presentation, which I will ask Tracey to forward to you all.

The next meeting is at Springfield Parish Council on the 12th October, 2017 when the main speakers will be Nick Alston and CITiZAN.
